Memorable Class: Chemistry
I like foreign languages, the joy of breaking double figures (barely) on mid-terms, learning that Nevin Reber spelled backwards still gets you Niven Reber, and the elite recognition of being in the Visitors Corner. Second: English with Hokman. Learning how to console and support my friend and neighbor Ric Trent during his times of need each of the 15 times his beloved great-great grandmother died somewhere in West Virginia, always coinciding with exams or themes/poems due--helped me prepare for the 26 times she died when we were at GWU.

Memorable Event: winning WPIAL tennis titles (team and doubles),
First time in the history of Beaver High a team in any sport won a WPIAL title.

Memorable teacher: Nevin Reber
For teaching me humility, if not chemistry. "Thaaaat's right, Denbow, you'll end up not knowing magnesium from mangenese, just like Herbie Barrett over there." "It's Bennett, Mr. Reber." "Thaaaat's right; Barrett, Bennett, Bushnik, it doesn't matter when your work is not CP."

Comments:

I go to bed each night reminding myself of the insightful and sensitive advice my midget league football coach Bud Brooke, father of our class president, once gave me on a crisp autumn evening. It's transcending counsel that can be situationally adapted, and has served me well and often over the years and over the miles, from Vietnam to raising four teen-age daughters, from Bizzy Corner to the Big Ten, from East End Ave to East Lansing. I haven't always been able to meet the standard, but I humbly try. I hope you all aspire to follow it: "No matter if he has the ball or not, tackle Meek on every play."
